Dear Woodland Hills School District Staff and Families,
Earlier this week, the Woodland Hills School District administration learned that one of its vendors, PowerSchool, experienced a security incident with its student information system software. As you may recall, Woodland Hills uses the PowerSchool product for a variety of student records and services.
According to PowerSchool, they discovered the breach on December 28, 2024, which involved access to certain data using a compromised credential. They have assured us that no other PowerSchool products were affected, and that the incident has been contained. PowerSchool has implemented a series of measures to secure their systems, including deactivating the compromised credential, resetting passwords and enhancing access controls.
The Woodland Hills School District takes privacy and data security very seriously and is disappointed that this unfortunate incident has occurred. Although it occurred in PowerSchool’s system and not ours, we nevertheless are reviewing all records for any indication of personally identifiable information that may have been involved. The district will continue to follow our current policies and all relevant state laws.
Again, this breach occurred within PowerSchool’s systems, not the Woodland Hills School District’s, but we are taking every precaution to ensure the protection of any personally identifiable information of our students, staff, and families.
Sincerely,
Woodland Hills School District Board of Directors
Woodland Hills School District Central Administration
Woodland Hills School District Technology Department
